Holiday
Club
Each August we run
a holiday club for a week of mornings and invite children in the local
area as well as the children who are part of our church. The club is run
by volunteers, and most years we cater for about 80 children. In recent
years we have used the Scripture Union material 'Going Bananas', 'Light
Factory'
and recently have written our own based on Superheroes and 'Thunderbirds'.
Parish
Weekend
Each year members
of the church enjoy a weekend away together - usually in Scarborough, at
a hotel with its own swimming pool.
Worship, talks and
prayer are included along with a lot of fun, a party or talent show on
Saturday night, and an afternoon on the beach or sampling the tea shops!
A teaching programme
for children and young people is also included.
We find it an invaluable
time to get to know one another better and relax together.
Often more than 100 members of the church enjoy this opportunity, and we are now booking
for June 2008.
Spring
Harvest
For many years families
and individual members of the church have enjoyed a visit to Spring Harvest.
For the last few years we have made it a church event.
We enjoyed rousing
worship in the Big Top, or a quiet reflective time in Celtic worship, along
with a host of seminars and Bible readings from the Sermon on the Mount.
The swimming pool,
funfair and go-kart rides were also popular. Children enjoyed their
own morning sessions and evening celebrations.
Our Pathfinders took
over one of our chalets as a Youth Base, and those who had brought their
parents with them rarely saw them!
Plans are already
being made to go to next year's event.
