Who are we?

Christ Church, Upper Armley is a vibrant evangelical Anglican (Church of England) parish just outside the Yorkshire city of Leeds, about 3 miles west of the city centre. We are a lively worshipping community with a local and international flavour. The church is made of people from Armley, across west Leeds, and beyond, and benefits from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, personalities and personal stories. The parish is in the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds, part of the Armley Deanery, and as a church we are members of the Evangelical Alliance.

There are two churches in the parish: Christ Church (found on Armley Ridge Road), and the Church of the Ascension, (on the Armley Heights estate). Staff work across both churches as a team, and we have occasional joint services/activities. We seek to serve not only church members, but the community around us in our activities and projects. Christ Church School, just across the road from the church, is a C of E Primary school, and the vicar and several members of the church serve on the governing body.

Our parish motto for 2008 is:

"The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?"
(Psalm 27: 1)

Our mission statement is:

"We aim to be a community of God's people growing together in love, faith and worship, offering to others the Good News of Jesus Christ through words and actions."
